Bankrobber feature in Heavy Duty magazine

"Some say Rocket Bob is a retired CIA operative. Others dismiss that idea as fantasy, reckoning he was – and may still be – with the NSA. Either way, he’s believed to have worked at the secretive Menwith Hill spy base near Harrogate in North Yorkshire, UK. Significantly, Rocket Bob and Pete Pearson have never been seen in the same room at the same time. Well, whatever the truth about Bob, the British town of Swindon has made a name in recent years for the upper class customs rolling out of Rocket Bobs Cycle Works."

Gonna need a bigger .......

Wish I could get time to keep this blog updated :D

In the Shop right now we are buttoning up Blackbird, as phase2 nears completion. It's been a long road for what was a simple build. But suppliers have stalled this project solidly throughout 2012. But we are there now.... Carlsbad is just waiting to go out, it's finished and under covers in the shop.. In fact we have put out close to twenty bikes this year, it's been our biggest ever year, plus Voodoo orders and other parts have gone nuts.

We got 12 bikes coming in before Xmas and all the customers are just totally cool people to work for and I'm so into the projects we got lined up.

On top of this we got a Slim in from Norwich Harley and we continue to work ever closer with my friend Charlie from Warrs.

So what about the four competition builds? Well the race Sporty for 8 Ball is still being cut, Pressure Drop will be launched at Essen in May, De Compression will be a roller soon and that's going to be a massive day for us,, and the Shov, formerly known as Bankrobber, well it's launched at Ally Pally, it's turned into a crazy complicated build and TBH I'm completely obsessed with it :D

That's the update, but there's more, coffee bar is open this week, shop is rolling, although only clothes in there now, we do have a regular flow of customers :))

Back later.......

Essen May 2013

We can't make Sturgis this year, even though we qualified and win the Stugis Ticket, down at the shop work on orders & customer bikes has taken preference over our own builds and as such we do not have any builds completed.

As it turns out this is the last year the finals are held in Sturgis, which makes it a double blow for me. But it is what it is and even if we had bikes finished I don't think we could spare the time. The shop is that stacked out.

The new venue for the AMD Championships is Big Bike Europe in Essen next year, May 10th (ish).

This is pretty cool as we are in Stock Modded and Freestyle and it's not too far off. A good time in fact to get the bikes ready. So we are taking three, Pressure Drop, Bankrobber and Pauls XR (yet to be named)

So Bankrobber is down again! Third time this year. Which to many is more than bizarre :D but to those who know, it needs a lot to be built to the level we expect to compete with at the finals. So far this year Bankrobber has never actually had a full build, it's always been a fast hit. I know it's won every time it's changed but it's not really how I need it.

So, seeing as we have guys working for us now, I had Chris tear the Shovel down, and will post up its progress here :))

The start of the final build for Bankrobber:

Norwich HD Custom Show

Just want to thank Norwich Harley for putting on a great show last weekend. We all had a great time up there, Flea was on the go "networking" all day and Li was flat out all day selling wallet chains :) very cool.

The cherry was winning the Custom Show, a total surprise as Bankrobber was on our stand & not in the show tent with the Krazy Horse bikes and the rest of the field, which was made up of some outstanding rides.

So thanks to everyone, great to meet y'all and I think it's going to be the Dealer Show that we always do ;)

Too Cool

A friend of mine called Nige owns Workstation. Probably the finest damn office equip Co on the planet !

Anyways he showed up today at the shop and set us up with some ace chairs, tables, desks etc. in fact my new office chair is a revelation, was glued into it all afternoon & started drawing out advanced plans on Pressure Drop ! So ya see, that's how crucial this shit was ;)

No one is allowed in my chair !!!

how we roll...

was chatting with a good friend of mine last week about our pipes and other parts plus the whole build process,,, ya know it's the basic drive here to make and be the very best, no bullshit, no acceptance of a middle road just for expediency or cost!

I guess a good explanation of our ethos is indeed the current situation with the exhaust systems we are making. I was happy with our designs and our plan to make/weld the suckers up. But then I discovered a Co called Goodfabs (they bend our T45 stock into frame tubes), they are basically the best in the world at what they do and their welding on everything from 304 to Inconel is simply perfect but more than that it's art. Pure, clean, engineering art and it's exactly what we are striving for.

So once you see the potential in front of you, going back to the old plan becomes impossible ! I simply cant go back to a lesser process when I know we can get better.

But there are downsides to all this, parts have to be re-designed again, cost goes out the window, and production time stretches off into the distance with no clear eta!

Same as paint and even covering our seats. We go to the best people we can find. We could never be painters. The time, cost and money involved to setup in house rules it out for now. So we go to the best Co we can find. But that means you have to place the schedule for any build outside of your control, THAT'S the major downside as any third party Co has their own issues that can impact on their lead times.

Right now we have several bikes in the shop that are waiting on paint. All finished bar a few days in assembly (for us here at the shop it takes no more than 2 days to assemble a bike from total ground up). Thing is all these bikes are late and as our painters are expanding their own business into new fields so leads get extended and it's out of our control. So again we can look to a new paint Co but in our experience they all follow the same drug addled random pattern of trading :D

So basically this is the world of custom building, if you want to do it properly. Not just fire crap on a bought in frame all out of a catalogue. We want to be known as the best, not the most expedient or the highest volume turnover. To this end I am not prepared to compromise on the quality of any motorcycle that rolls out of our shop. It's why only bikes we actually love will roll out of this place, that's why we won't work on baggers, trikes or anything other than Harley.

If you want the best custom build in the world, you have come to the right place. But the right build takes time . . .

100% Biker feature on Bankrobber

a little update......

there are three main builds at the moment in the shop that we are focussed on, as delays and problems have struck and put us behind. Waiting on paint, parts and even powder right now is adding too much time, plus developing new parts as you're running through a job is always difficult. Our new lobster back race pipes are now going to be fabbed solely from sheet, it's the only way we can achieve the bends/tapers we need and nail the look . So the guys who work with us on these also fab F1 pipes and a bunch of other extraordinary work & as the best in the world, they are rammed ! Which puts delays in our timeline.

So this post is turning into a whine :D I can change that easily, the new shop is awesome, working on bikes now is so much easier and we got part time staff also! Things are ace and once Beaulieu is out the way we should have the retail shop and coffee bar setup also :D

Here's a few pix,, tweaking the Shovel in between work, Sickboyz & Noble Custom Sickles came to visit and dya have any idea how much those pallets were swaying about !!

Tool Time,,,,

So y'all know we moved ? Well the new shop is a big step up for us and finally a space where we can hit the work we have rolling in. One thing was lacking though, the old tool setup was woefull, we had tools spilling out of everywhere in the old shop and needed some order.

In steps Tony Kriz, my friend from Denver and the reason I now have a Shovel!

He hooked me up with these monsters, no shit the big one weighs 1/4 of a tonne and rolls on six big ass sprung wheels :)

Anyway,, thanks Tony, too cool Bud............

We're on the move....

Well in fact it's been a week of upheaval as the old shop needed packing up, meanwhile the new shop had to be negotiated and some how the keys got hold of. Normally takes six weeks but we drove it through in ten days.

However now the actual move! First load went in yesterday and hopefully we will break the back of it this weekend, but actually setting up is a different matter. There's no electric , and I mean none, no board nothing! No water no lights (obviously) .. Nothing!!

I hope we are back up and running by the end of next week. In which case we will have done it quicker than last time.

Here's a few pix:

Here's a promise

Yeah I know,, it's been ages,, PLUS I know most posts start out saying that and saying its gonna change :(

Well it is, this time ,,, this time I am going to get to posting a lot up here, not just what we are doing but of the whole scene we are wrapped up in...

So the update here is simple really, we are rammed in the shop! Trying to tie in with some fabricators who are the best in the world at pipe work, so our frames, pipes & bars are second to none.

Just about keeping up with parts orders but bike builds are suffering because, now I've seen the quality of what we can achieve I want it on everything!

We are on the cover of this months American V with a lot of features inside & we've just done the cover shoot for 100% Biker.

Hopefully in the next few weeks we will be moving to much larger premises, if we do ill post up here and there will be an open day in June which ya gotta come to !

American V shoot

Another quick post,, sorry for sporadic updates, really will get a fair few sorted over the next couple of weeks as there is just so much going on...

Anyway, yesterday at Epsom race course we shot the Am V cover for the next issue. Wade from Suckboyz in his 79 Shovel and of course our 79 Shovel.

Had a absolute riot with all the guys that showed up and the weather just could not have been better. All in all it was a memorable day....

Loads more comin up .....

LICCS Ally Pally

Well,, just a brief post as I have more pix of other bikes & rods at the show. But the cool news for us is we took Best in Show at this weekends event & won the AMD Sturgis ticket.

Honestly could not be more happy and right now speechless , still !! A state a lot of people are hoping is permanent :D

LICCS Ally Pally

Great to meet up with so many people today, it was one of the best days we've had at a show & the Shovel went down well.

My problem right now is I need to shoot the bike properly as the iPhone is simply not getting it, so at the moment all I can post is the paint. This was laid down as usual by 8 Ball and I honestly can not get over how good it is !

I'll get proper pix done soon and post up, 2mo is the final day and we will be there all day, so drop and have a chat. Meantime one crappy pic:

Bankrobber

Well, three days it took! But the pipe is done now for the Shovel & this "quick makeover" build is turning into an epic!

This time next week it has to be on the AMD stand at Ally Pally and right now I have no wheels, no paint, no loom, no headlight, no spacers or adjusters,, the forks need lowering 3" & the frame is still getting cut,,,,,

Errrmmmm,,, see you there !!!!!!!

Gas Caps & so much more

It's been a while since ive been here. Things at the shop are manic to say the least. Currently looking at 13 bikes with a few more out on quote.

Then there's the Shovel, despite it being a quick job to get it looking cool for the show it's taking a bite out of shop time and TBH I'll be relieved when it's done!

Ok, so we are going to start doing more caps, we have a new way to mill the logo, by removing material around it, plus we can remove that material in and given pattern.

So this was the first cap we ran as a prover, there will be other texts available shortly, check the website as we are currently working on a new products page.

Ok so here's the cap,, back soon:)

We are also going to do Shovel ones & a few other well known variants ;)

BTW we are overhauling the products page over the next two weeks, as we have parts made up that aren't even on it ! To much work in currently ya see, well it's a good excuse :D

Shovel update....

So here's the thing. We have never been so busy. The shop is filled with bikes and we have parts orders out the door,, time is pressing for the shovel and Pressure Drop,, this is where I am at right now:

Shovel ......

Going to post a long monologue later about why a Shovel, but for now here's the bike I've always wanted. A 1979 FXS 80" Lowrider. It actually gets better than that, but like I say, more later. The plan was to just ride it and then do some simple work on it BUT mainly just keep it on the road. Well I took it out the van yesterday and despite my friend Tony having done a great job building this scooter, I just saw a bunch of possible work I could do plus my 76 Superglide tank just looks killer on there. Then there's areas like the pipe, as we are making some insane pipes right now it only seems right to fab something up for my Bike plus lose the switchgear and all wiring I think..... Here's a couple of crappy pix....
